Who is the best captain in Star Trek?

User Avatar
This definitely goes to Jean-Luc Picard, as portrayed by Patrick Stewart. I think what makes Picard such a great captain in particular is the personal responsibility he feels for the safety of everybody on board his ship, whether they’re a member of the crew or family. Throughout Star Trek: The Next Generation, Captain Picard displayed a deep camaraderie for those who served under him, despite his outward demeanor usually being professional and stern. It’s this balance that I feel not only defined him as a captain, but showcased what made him the best captain.

Where is the holodeck in Star Trek Online?

User Avatar
"Holodeck" is the nickname for the main shard of servers for Star Trek Online, of which the gameplay is live and no beta updates are included. The holodeck is also a planned feature within STO, where players will be able to reproduce any mission they have already completed. It is not in live play yet, and is still being developed. A holodeck is part of the Federation player tutorial and is located at Starfleet Academy. It's in the building with the bar, exchange, mail, bank areas. Go in the main door and go straight into the hallway. It's located there.

What year is Star Trek set?

User Avatar
It depends upon which series you are talking about. The series ranges from the 22nd century through the 24th. During Jonathan Archer's command of the experimental Enterprise NX-1 it was set a few generations after the first contact with the Vulcan in 2063 which would be around the 22nd century. About a century later James T. Kirk was in command of the Constitution Class Enterprise NCC 1701 and later the NCC 1701-A. That was around the 23rd century. Another 100 years later we meet Jean-Luc Picard in command of the Galaxy Class Enterprise NCC 1701-D and later the Sovereign Class Enterprise NCC 1701-E. Circa the Enterprise E era Benjamin Sisko was in command of the previously Cardassian run Deep Space Nine space station and Captain Janeway was in command of the Voyager which was lost in the Delta Quadrant deep in Borg territory. Some years later Romulus was destroyed and Spock and a renegade Romulan named Nero time-traveled back to the 23rd century creating an alternate timeline.

Asked in Star Trek

What is The borg collective?

User Avatar
The Borg are one of the more popular villains in Star Trek. They are a race of cybernetic beings in Star Trek who share a collective consciousness. They are driven by the urge to assimilate other beings into their collective by injecting them with tiny nanoprobes that turn them into cyborgs and collect them to the hive mind. Once that happens, the person who has been assimilated will become a Borg, even if he had just been risking his life to defeat them. Because they share a collective consciousness, and their members have no sense of individuality, they think nothing of sacrificing large numbers of their membership to advance their goals. They are excellent at adapting very quickly to new situations, meaning that any weapons used against them quickly become harmless. They travel in very large ships shaped like cubes or spheres, and are able to repair damage to their ships very quickly, making them even more difficult to destroy.

When was the first Star Trek made?

User Avatar
The first pilot episode, The Cage, was never released officially in 1966 until later episodes caught the attention of a broadcast studio. Later that year, the missing episode was incorporated only in part with new material and set as a two-part episode called The Menagerie. 30 years later, Gene Rodenberry re-released this pilot with never before seen unmastered, unedited, black and white footage. Some years later, The Cage was released in an exclusive enhanced DVD box set with all episodes remastered and new footage included for the space scenes.

Asked in Philosophy and Philosophers, Star Trek, Famous Quotations

What philosopher said the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few?

User Avatar
It wasn't a philosopher, but was first spoken by Leonard Nimoy's Spock in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. However, philosopher Jeremy Bentham had a similar quote: "It is the greatest good to the greatest number of people which is the measure of right and wrong."

Who is the most hated Star Trek character?

User Avatar
There have been many menacing villains in Star Trek, but in my opinion, none were more evil and dispicable than the Cardassian Gul Ducat. He often changed his disposition and appeared to have changed his ways (I must admit, I started to feel a little sorry for him myself), but Kira Nerys of DS9 kept her wits about her and never trusted him once. The guy was so trecherous, he had an affair with a young Bajoran woman who was married with children (as was Ducat) and impregnated her (all during the Cardassian occupation on Bajor where he used Bajoran females as "Pleasure Women"), only to ditch his outcast Bajoran-Cardassian daughter on a desert planet with the Breen. He also falsely disguised himself as a Bajoran and infiltrated the Kai, (kind of like a female pope of the Bajoran world) by way of getting into her bed purely to release evil spirits to destroy everything that was holy. Shortly before he went mad (after being completely outcast), he almost got away with genocide after he impregnated yet another Bajoran woman who was due to be married to another man. He betrayed the trust of his own family, the Federation, his own Cardassian Military Order and his own home world. Of all of his evil plans, he was hell bent on killing Benjamin Sisko because he believed he was the ccounterpart emissary of the Pah Wraiths (the evil prophets). The one single ongoing evil, sick-minded, sadistic character that I simply loved to hate. At least the rest of the Cardassians, some Klingons and most Romulans were at best cruel and war-like. Ducat was evil incarnate.
