Does chocolate potentiate the effects of narcotics morphine sulfate in paticular?

User Avatar
While many people believe that chocolate can induce the effects of many medications, not just limited to narcotics, there have been limited researches done to give a exact answer. However, chocolate is known to increase the production of Tryptophan, an amino acid responsible for making you feel sleepy. When people consume chocolate after taking a medication such as morphine (an opioid known for causing moderate to sever drowsiness) the effects of the Tryptophan combine with the effect of the opioid, morphine in your case, to cause a more potent effect. However, it is not actually making the medication more potent but in fact increasing the side effects.

Can morphine sulfate cause ulcers?

User Avatar
you mean gastric/duodenal ulcers? They are usually caused by a bacteria (H.Pylori) however they can also be caused by taking excessive amounts of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs like acetaminophen (Tylenol) which often accompanies opiate pain killer drugs like morphine sulfate. I was just reading an article, published in '07 Supportive Oncology, which was describing use of Morphine Sulfate topical gel as an effective pain control method for ulcers on the epidermis. I wonder if it would be good for gastric ulcers too.

How much morphine is safe?

User Avatar
It depends entirely on your opiate tolerance. In emergency situations, a person who is not a chronic opiate user, the dose is usually from 1 to five mg. repeated as needed. If you are a chronic user, the dose can be up to 1gm (1000mg) depending on your tolerance.

How can you quit Morphine sulfate 60 mg er?

User Avatar
There are a variety of strategies for overcoming a narcotic addiction. For those who have iron willpower, the "cold turkey" method is the most successful; you just stop, and whatever withdrawal symptoms you may suffer will eventually pass, and you will no longer be addicted (although you may still feel the occasional temptation to back slide). If that is too difficult, people generally use some other drug as a substitute. Alcohol is convenient since it is available without prescription. You can certainly ask your doctor to prescribe something that will help you to overcome a morphine addiction. The problem with that strategy is that there is a high risk of becoming addicted to whatever drug you are using to overcome your morphine addiction. However, it might be easier to switch to alcohol and then gradually reduce your alcohol consumption to a moderate level. Nothing prevents you from drinking alcohol moderately for the rest of your life. Red wine even has real health benefits if you drink only one or two glasses per day (it protects against heart disease). So that can work out.

Can you take Ibuprofen and morphine together?

User Avatar
Morphine is a pain killer. Ibuprofen is an anti inflammatory. Since most pain is caused by inflammation, ibuprofen is often considered a pain killer but really it isn't. For those who don't believe it, see an article in Pain Magazine, 1988 Aug;34(2):117-22 where ibuprofen is shown to have the same effect on non inflammatory pain as a placebo. Both drugs can be taken together. My doctor even recommended to me that should the morphine sulfate tablets (10mg) he prescribed me be insufficient, I should take a supplementary dose of ibuprofen. I'm currently recovering from an MRSA abcess in my abdomen. At first I thought it was a boil, and I was taking ibuprofin for the pain. It did nothing at all. After an alarming amount of growth over night, I went to the ER and had it sliced open, and began antibiotic treatment. The first night back from the doc I only used the morphine tablet; It helped but it could have been much better. The second time, I threw in 600mg of ibuprofen with the dosage because the first morphine tablet had given me a headache and the doc had also told me to use that much if the morphing by itself didn't work; I couldn't feel even the slightest bit of pain. If I ever end up in the ER with a morphing drip, I will be asking for ipuprofen at the same time. My personal experience is that they complement each other wonderfully. As for potential liver damage, your doctor will know how much of each you can take at the same time without damaging the liver. It will depend on your personal history, genetics, and the dosages of each drug. I don't know about morphine, but ibuprofen is one of the safest drugs available if you are not allergic to it. There are no long term affects from an ibuprofen overdose. Chronic usage at a lower dose may be a different story.

What happens if you take vicodin and morphine pills?

User Avatar
Since vicodin and morphine are both narcotics, taking both is very much like taking a larger amount of either one of them. If you don't know what you are doing, you may suffer an overdose. Your doctor can advise you and if taking both is recommended, prescribe safe dosages.

How do you make poppy seed tea?

User Avatar
There are numerous ways to extract Morphine and Codeine alkaloids from Poppy Seeds. One method is smoking. You can create home-made opiate extract from as little as 1 pound of poppy seeds. First pour your seeds into a pan with water, and begin to boil. Let it boil until the water is half gone. Then strain out the seeds, and begin boiling again. This time, boil until all the water is gone, and there is a tar looking substance at the bottom of the pan. Get a razor blade and scrape it off the bottom, let dry for at least 12 hours. You can then hot-knife the extract, or load some in a bong with cannabis. The other method is ingesting it orally in a tea. You can use a cold water extraction, or a hot water extraction. For cold water, pour the desired amount of seeds (300g plenty for one person) into a cup of cold water. Let the seeds sit for a few hours, shake occasionally. Strain the seeds, and drink the liquid. For the hot water extraction, pour desired amount of seeds into boiling water, let sit for 20 minutes, then strain seeds, let water cool, drink the water. *Remember to slightly acidify the water before adding the seeds. You want a pH of about 6.5. You can do this with some lemon juice or lime juice. Effects: The "high" of the tea has been described as very similar to most opiates. Euphoria, relaxation, sense of well being, happiness, and sedation are all common effects of the tea. Dosage: A dosage for a moderate strength tea would roughly 300 grams. Remember, tolerance plays a large role in dosage, if its your first time with Opiates, start with 200 grams. A dosage for an extremely powerful tea would be 1.5 pounds (700 grams.) Do not exceed 3 pounds (1300 grams.) A young man died from consuming 3.5 pounds of seeds in a tea, and he had a fairly large tolerance, so please be careful. WARNINGS: These tea extracts are dangerous. There is no real way to tell the potency of a seed batch, so tea strengths can vary. Remember, there are two VERY powerful alkaloids in this tea, MORPHINE, and CODEINE. Morphine is deadly at too high of doses, a kid actually died from making a poppy seed tea, he had a lethal level of Morphine in his bloodstream. This tea is ADDICTING! Its basically Morphine tea, so don't be surprised when you start making impulsive trips to the grocery store to get poppy seeds, this is a REAL drug, with REAL dangers. Signs of Morphine Overdose: cold clammy skin flaccid muscles fluid in the lungs lowered blood pressure "pinpoint" or dilated pupils sleepiness stupor coma slowed breathing difficulty breathing slow pulse rate bluish colored fingernails and lips spasms of the stomach and/or intestinal tract nausea vomiting constipation palpitations drowsiness

What happens when you mix morphine and Adderall?

User Avatar
If you have ever heard the term "speedball," apply it to this type of combo. Traditionally a speedball is used when a person mixes heroin and cocaine, usually by mixing both and injecting. This is to give a double type of high, sort of. Cocaine of course can lead to euphoria, increased awareness, a feeling of grandiousity even, and general pyschomotor stimualation. Heroin also contributes to the euphoria, but can also cause a person to become so tired they begin to nod off. Mixing the two, in a way, allows a person to not nod off and feel the high better. Of course this is extremely dangerous and it wouldn't be too surprising to hear that a person who has done this is now dead. They are at opposite ends of the spectrum in that cocaine is a stimulant and heroin has depressant properties. Though heroin can cause respiratory depression and cocaine can cause the heart to race, arrhythmias and high blood pressure. Adderall can be likened to cocaine in that adderall is basically amphetamines, a stimulant, and morphine is an opiate like heroin. I am not saying that these two drugs are never mixed, but it should only be done in a person who is being prescribed both by a physician and is monitored on a regular basis. I would not suggest anyone do this unless a physician is involved and prescribes these drugs with the patients best interests in mind.
