Fruits and Vegetables

Defined as the developed ovary of a seed plant with its contents and accessory parts, fruits are a wide variety of deliciously edible foods that include berries, grapes, watermelon and tomato, among many others. A vegetable is any edible stem, root, or leaf of a plant. While most vegetables are cooked in order to be edible, there are some that can be eaten raw. There are also fruits which are considered vegetables. In botanical terms, all vegetables that have seed are called fruits, and there is no distinction for vegetables. Vegetable is the culinary term for fruits that are not sweet, but instead savory.

Is a peanut a vegetable or a fruit?

In botanical terms it is considered a legume, which is a fruit. In culinary terms it is considered to be a plant cultivated for an edible part, therefore a vegetable.

Botanically speaking, it is a fruit, since the seeds are contained within a pod, even though that pod develops underground. Peanuts are somewhat unique within the legume family due to their geocarpy (fruit develops underground).
a peanut is a vegetable cause of the way it grows and what not, but to everyone who's saying its just a nut or its a fruit your wrong!

Can rabbits eat brussels sprouts?

Yes, brussels sprouts are quite nutritious for rabbits in moderation (also hamsters, guinea pigs, humans, etc.). The dark-coloured outside leaves are especially healthy. The inner white/light leaves are low in nutritonal value, might make your rabbit sick.

Like all cruciferous vegetables, brussels sprouts can cause gas. Gas can lead to serious illness in rabbits, so brussels sprouts shouldn't be a staple in your rabbit's diet. Some bunnies are more sensitive to gas than others; very sensitive bunnies shouldn't have brussel sprouts at all. It's important to pay attention to your individual rabbits so that you know how they react to certain foods!

Feed rabbits vegetables often if you want a healthy rabbit! Not cold, but room temperature vegetables. A healthy rabbit diet includes a daily "salad" of mixed leafy dark greens. Brussel sprout leaves can be included in the rabbit's salad. Other vegetables (like carrot, squash) should be considered treats (same as fruit) and strictly limited.

See the related question below for more info about the rabbit diet.

Is it true that apples don't really have cores?

The no core theory was popularized by a 2013 video by Foodbeast in which an apple was eaten wholeβ€”seeds and allβ€”from the bottom up, eliminating the Γ’Β€ΒœcoreҀ entirely. Some oppose this apple eating method based on safety concerns, as apple seeds contain amygdalin, which releases cyanide when digested. However, youҀ™d have to eat roughly 18 apples (including seeds) to even get close to a lethal dose.

So, you can safely eat through an entire apple. With that established, the confusion then lies in what constitutes the actual core. By one definition, the core is just the thin, fibrous band that runs through the center of an apple, containing the seeds and attaching to the stem.

However, The Atlantic argues that the Γ’Β€ΒœcoreҀ is actually what we choose to leave behind after consumption, which varies from person to person, and eating the apple in its entirety prevents the core from ever existing. They also state that most of us waste up to 30 percent of perfectly good fruit as a result of avoiding the core.

One study suggests that the core and seeds actually contain the highest concentration of healthy bacteria, and researchers encouraged people to consume the entire apple to get the most nutritional benefit.
