What is the best route to travel from Toronto to Phoenix Arizona by car?

User Avatar
Toronto to Phoenix by car: Take the QEW to the Peace Bridge, then pick up I-190 at the other end of the bridge in Buffalo to I-90. I-90 will take you to Cleveland and I-71. Take I-71 to Columbus, then I-70 to St Louis, where you transfer to I-44. I-44 will take you to Oklahoma City where you pick up I-40. Follow I-40 all the way to Flagstaff, Arizona, then I-17 will take you right into Phoenix. DO NOT CROSS AT DETROIT. A slightly longer alternative is the QEW, 403, 401 and 402 combination to Sarnia, where you cross to Port Huron. Then take I-69 to Indianapolis where you pick up I-70 and continue as above.

Asked in Daylight Saving Time, Arizona, Hawaii

Why does Arizona not have Daylight Saving Time?

User Avatar
When Congress passed the Uniform Time Act in 1966, Arizona tried observing daylight savings for a year and decided to not observe it after much negative reaction. They have never observed daylight savings since. Think about it: if you were in the desert, the last thing you would want is extra daylight. Because of the hot climate, adding an extra hour of daylight would cause more of an energy crunch with AC working longer and harder. ( This part of the answer is retarded cause you are just changing the time, not magically moving the sun to make the daylight longer. The days are gonna be longer in summertime because the earth has tilted on its axis and we are receiving more light and you are gonna use the same amount of energy anyway. DST is just a way for big businesses to capitalize on the more sunlight during these months, Arizona just realized this was BS and refused to comply) Arizona is on Mountain Standard Time (MST) year-round. The only exception in Arizona is the Navajo Nation, in northeastern Arizona, which does observe Daylight Saving Time.

Why is Grand Canyon State important to Arizona?

User Avatar
I'm assuming that you mean the nickname "Grand Canyon State". I will answer from my own perspective. I live two hours from the Grand Canyon. When I go there, I feel like a minority. There are so many people from other countries that it is amazing. Here, the 5 million visitors per year, don't just learn about the Grand Canyon, they learn about Arizona. Frankly, the Grand Canyon puts us on the map. People from all over the world refer to Arizona as the state that has the Grand Canyon in it, so why not be known as The Grand Canyon State?
